Obituary

Sandra “Sandy” Kay Janus (née Wibel), age 78, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, in Ruskin, Florida. Born on March 26, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio, Sandy lived a life filled with love, faith, and joy—touching every person blessed to know her.

Sandy was the beloved wife of Joseph Janus, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, devotion, and partnership. Together they built a beautiful family that was always the center of her world. She was a proud and loving mother to her three children: Jeffrey Janus, Jason Janus, and SheaAnn Janus Mellendorf (married to Matthew Mellendorf). Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren—Joey Janus, Madeline Phillips, Jaclyn Janus, and Julie Janus—and she carried in her heart the treasured memories of Shannon Janus and James Janus. She is also survived by her dear sister, Barb Jeko.

A woman of deep faith and unwavering kindness, Sandy found purpose and fulfillment in her spiritual life. She was an active participant in Bible studies and a devoted churchgoer, allowing her faith to guide her actions and inspire everyone around her. Her commitment to her community extended well beyond the church; she was a vibrant, welcoming presence among friends and neighbors, always quick with a warm smile or comforting hug.

Sandy lived life with a radiant spirit. As a cherished member of both the “Lunch Bunch” and the “Trash Sisters,” she formed friendships rooted in fellowship, laughter, and fun. She delighted in long walks, good books, and bargain hunting—earning her the affectionate title of “garage sale queen.”

Family was at the heart of everything Sandy did. She cherished every moment spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchild—whether visiting in person or connecting through calls, stories, or shared memories. Thoughtful to her core, Sandy made others feel valued in the smallest but most meaningful ways: saving articles, adding comics to birthday cards, or sending playful emojis that brightened someone’s day.

Sandy’s legacy is one of love, laughter, kindness, and genuine care for others. Those who knew her will forever remember her boundless energy, radiant positivity, and her unforgettable smile.

May Sandra “Sandy” Kay Janus rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the same love she so generously shared throughout her remarkable life.
