Shirley W Korn went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2023. At 101 years of age, this woman lived a full life and spent her last days in the comfort and care of Sun City Center Hospice House.
Shirley was born December 30, 1921, in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of Willis Austin and Grace (Graham) Woodworth. She graduated from Ansonia High School, Ansonia, CT in 1939. A long-time resident of Ansonia and Derby CT, she moved to Sun City Center, FL in September 1983.
She was predeceased by her husband Clifford W Korn (March 6, 2012), her brother Donald Woodworth, and her niece, Barbara (Woodworth) Wargo. She is survived by her son, Clifford W Korn, Jr., her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Korn, Grandsons Gregory Korn (Lola) and Douglas Korn (Stacy); Great-Grandchildren Brandon, Alison, Arielle, and Thomas; nephews and nieces Donald Woodworth (Donna), Norean Woodin (Alvin), Joan Woodworth Milton, John Woodworth (Andrea), Betsy Jayne Tobak (Howard), as well as grand nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a proud WWII veteran of the Navy WAVES. She was employed for many years as a stenographer at the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad/Conrail in New Haven, CT. She found time to be active in the First Baptist Church, and serve as Worthy Matron of the Martha Washington Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Ansonia.
Always active when she was able, Shirley was a long-time pharmacy volunteer at South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center, exercised her alto voice as a choir member of Trinity Baptist Church and served as the church's music librarian.
With a razor-sharp mind to the end, she loved being informed on the great grandchildren's activities, and when not reminiscing about travels to Europe, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific, she voraciously went through audio books provided by the library for the blind.
A family and friend burial and memorial service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia, CT at a date to be determined.
