Obituary

Signora Byre was born on November 15, 1919 in Hegbert Township, Swift County, to parents Ole N. and Hannah (Johnson) Brustuen. She was raised on the family farm in Hegbert Township where she went to country school through the eighth grade. She completed her formal education at the Agricultural School in Morris.In June of 1946 she married her childhood sweetheart, Conrad Byre, of Dunseith, North Dakota. After farming briefly in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota, Signora and Conrad were able to move back to Hegbert Township where they set up housekeeping and spent a lifetime farming together. They were members of the Good Shepherd Church and both supported the Long Lake Church Association. Signora and Conrad loved travel and frequently took bus trips throughout North America. They two flew to Norway to visit their ancestral roots. Signora was one of the original Home Health Aides when the program started and she worked in this fine organization with her friend, LaMae Radtke, for many years. Signora and Conrad were members of Sons of Norway and enjoyed all the activities of her Scandinavian ancestry, particularly the preparation of the traditional seasonal foods. She was an excellent cook and housekeeper and thoroughly enjoyed her grandsons, Jake and Will.Signora died on Tuesday, February 10th, at Appleton Area Health Services. She had attained 89 years, 2 months, and 25 days of age.She is survived by two children: Calvin Byre of Norman, OK, and Susan (Richard) Massey of Appleton; two grandchildren: Jake (YuDan) Massey of Beijing, China, and Will Massey of Fargo, ND; great-granddaughter, Emma Sue Massey, of Beijing, China; several nieces, nephews, and other family.She is preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Hannah Brustuen; husband, Conrad, on November 29, 2002; daughter-in-law, Vicki Byre; an infant sister; two sisters: Helga Mikkelson and Josephine Larson; and three brothers: Nils, Sever, and Andrew Brustuen.
