Stanley Max Vollan was born December 21, 1926 in Mandt Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, the son of Ole Peter and Susan (Reles) Vollan. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Immanuel Lutheran in Benson. He grew up on the family farm and completed the eighth grade. On January 25, 1952, Stanley was united in marriage to Lois Joan Mattheisen at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson. They were blessed with three children and 59 years of marriage. The family lived in Benson, and Stanley worked for Tyler. He retired in 1992, but kept working there for a time. He also had a saw sharpening business. Stanley was a member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ and served as an usher. Among the things he enjoyed were fishing, hunting, reading, playing cards, and dancing at the Lakeside Ballroom. But he especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Stanley was called from this life on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Meadow Lane Golden Living Center in Benson. He attained the age of 84 years, 3 months and 10 days. Stanley is survived by his wife Lois of Benson; his children: David (fiancé, Shari) Vollan of Benson, Dan (Tammy) Vollan of Moody, TX, and Donald Vollan of Benson; five grandchildren: Brianna (Jeff) Jensen, Samuel Vollan, Fallon Vollan, Shawn Vollan and Maxwell Vollan; two great grandchildren: Ayden Avant, and Jordyn Jensen; sisters: Dorris Rasmussen of Benson and Evelyn Morrell of Benson; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: Albert, Floyd, and Leslie Vollan; and sisters: Clara, Gladys, and Violet.
