Thorvin J. Johnson, was born on May 18, 1913, in Montevideo, MN, the son of Frank and Anna Nokleby Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Norwegian Lutheran Church. He grew up in Grace Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota. He attended country school in Cashel Township. Thorvin was united in marriage to Lydia Ida Guse, on February 24, 1939, at the St. John's Lutheran Church. To this union one son and one daughter were born. Together Thorvin and Lydia were able to share in 60 years of marriage. In 1943 they moved to Grace Township, where they farmed until 1970. They then moved to Lake Minnewaska where they made their home for almost 28 years. In August of 1997, they moved to Spring Lake Park, Minnesota. Thorvin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Chippewa County, past member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson, and a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, selling cars, ice fishing, and playing cards. Thorvin was called from this life on Friday evening, January 23, 2009, at the New Brighton Care Center in New Brighton, Minnesota. He attained the age of 95 years, 8 months, and 5 days. Thorvin is survived by his son; Dean (Jean) Johnson of Starbuck; one daughter Kathy (Steve) Miller of Mounds View, MN; four grandchildren; Troy Johnson, Jodi Wooters, Christopher Miller, and Jonathan Miller; four great- grandchildren; Samantha Johnson, Desa-Rae Johnson, Courtney Wooters and Carson Wooters; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Thorvin was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Anna, his wife Lydia in 1999, a brother Alvin Johnson, and two sisters Myrtle Anderson and Fern Slattery.
