Valerene Estelle MacAnson Retallick, 83, passed away on November 8, 2009 in Sun City Center, FL. She was born in Milwaukee, WI, on February 3, 1926 to Edward P. MacAnson and Exilda Michaud Briggs MacAnson. Val graduated from St. Peter and Paul Elementary School and Messmer High School in Milwaukee. She received a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee, WI. She enlisted in the Army on August 15, 1949 and was honorably discharged on February 5, 1953 as a First Lieutenant, Registered Occupational Therapist. Val retired from the Veterans Home and Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut as an Occupational Therapist III on March 1, 1976. She met and married the love of her life, John Arthur Retallick Jr., from Lonaconing, MD, on May 3, 1952, in Hartford, CT. In Connecticut, she and John ran their own very successful antiques and art business for many years. When John retired in 1976, they moved to Florida and lived in Bonita Springs and Sun City Center. Val was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and half-sister Helen Briggs and half-brothers Walter Joseph and Charles Robert Briggs. Val is survived by her sister-in-law Virginia E. Rowan of Sun City Center. She is also survived by 3 nephews, 6 nieces, 9 great-nephews, 1 great-niece, and 1 stepson. Val was a lover of cats.
