Obituary

Verna Augusta Koosmann was born on May 26, 1922, in Shible Township, Swift County to George A. and Margaret L. (Schmidt) Loose. She was baptized on July 23, 1922, and confirmed on April 5, 1936, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Shible Township. She attended rural District #42 and graduated from Appleton High School.On October 6, 1940, she was married to Sieghart William Koosmann at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shible Township. They farmed for several years until retiring in 1975. They then moved to Willmar for two years and returned to Appleton in 1978. In 2004 they sold their home in Appleton and moved to Copper Glen in Montevideo.Verna worked as a homemaker in her own home and was a Mary Kay Beauty consultant for many years. She also sold Amway and Avon products. She enjoyed playing cards; especially bridge, crocheting, and doing embroidery.In her earlier years she served as a 4-H club leader, was an active member of her church in Bible study groups, singing with the choir, working with ladies aid, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, was an officer in the Appleton Circuit and regional vice-president, and taught Sunday School for many years.Verna died on Thursday morning, April 30th, at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital. She had attained 86 years, 11 months, and 4 days of age.She is survived by seven children: Janice (Rev. Gunard) Heikkila of Deer Creek, RuthAnn (Daniel) Kershner of Twinsburg, OH, Roger (Lois) Koosmann of Spicer, Daniel (Jeanne) Koosman of Spicer, James Koosmann of Appleton; Gary (Donna) Koosmann of Montevideo, and Eunice (Brian)Hallet of Richfield; 16 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Char) Loose of Willmar; sister, Evelyn Grages, of Montevideo; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sieghart, on January 10th, 2008; son-in-law, Tom Eberlein; great-granddaughter, Megan Thorsland; sister, Della Loose, and two brothers: Wallace and Virgil Loose.
