Walter G. Johnson, was born on March 15, 1922, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Emil and Clara Johnson. He grew up in Camp Lake Township and was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended district 14 school and later graduated from Benson High School in 1941. Walter was united in marriage to Yvonne Nelson on November 15, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson. They were able to share in 62 years of marriage. This union was blessed with three daughters. They settled on a farm in Camp Lake Township. Walter's whole life was spent farming. He enjoyed building and maintaining farm machinery and looked forward to coffee and visiting with his farmer friends in Swift Falls. Walter loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on the Church council. He served on the District 14 School Board, was chairman of the Town Board for 27 years, and was a member of the Hospital Board. Walter died on Friday, November 27, 2009, at the Swift County Benson Hospital. He attained the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 12 days. He is survived by his wife Yvonne; three daughters, Lynnea (Robert) Pritchett of Willmar, Minnesota, Lori Tostenson of Swift Falls, Minnesota, and Janalee (Ross) Haugen of Plymouth, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Heather (Dave) Jensen, Alison (Tony) Stinar, Jennifer (JR) Trump, Angie Pritchett, and Emily (Andrew) Vennerstrom; four great grandchildren, Jackson Stinar, Lincoln Stinar, Halle Jensen, and Isabelle Jensen; a sister Alphild Johson of Starbuck, Minnesota; and a brother Verner Johnson of Starbuck, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Clara, a brother Leslie Johnson, and a sister Elsie Johnson.
