Warren Leroy Kushmer was born on December 4, 1927 and lived his life in Hillsborough County. His boyhood neighborhood and beloved Adamsville also became his adult home. His love for the land was both admirable and infectious, along, with a work ethic second to none. He was a man who lived life to the fullest while never forgetting his roots, family and friends. But, above all else, he was a man everyone could trust and lean on in times of need, giving unselfishly and without ceasing.
His family and close friends called him "Gussy" or "Boy". Anyone his younger called him "Uncle Gussy". Gussy was an honorable man who served his country during the Korean War and made friends throughout the Southeast while building water towers in many of our nations cities.
With the help of his family, Gussy built a thriving business in South Hillsborough County. As a pioneer in the tropical fish business Gussy helped nurture an entire industry reaching global proportions. Many of today's industry leaders can trace their beginning to this humble man.
Gussy is survived by his wife Caroline, son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Cally and four exceptional grandchildren Alyssa, Lee, Kaylie and Christian along with many nephews, cousins and hundreds, if-not thousands of friends.
Warren Leroy (Gussy) Kushmer was a man of integrity and dignity but most of all he was a man of humility and love. He abideth in Faith, Hope, and Love with his greatest attribute being Love. Gussy loved the Lord, Father, and his Savior Jesus Christ. Always giving thanks to God, for His mercy endures forever, Amen.
A memorial service is planned for 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Gibsonton.
