William Charles "Bill" Mitteness was born December 25, 1934 in Holloway, Minnesota, the son of Severt and Clarissa (Hughes) Mitteness. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Joseph's Church in Holloway. He attended school in Holloway. Bill served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 - 57. He was stationed in Germany as a radio operator. Following his discharge, Bill returned home and worked for his Dad in the road business. He continued his education at St. Cloud State, and graduated with a BA degree in 1962. On February 27, 1960, Bill was united in marriage to Sharon Joan Hendrickson at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud by Fr. Daniel Tavfer. They were blessed with four children. Together, Bill and Sharon were able to share in 49 years of marriage. After college, Bill was employed by Gould Battery Co. in St. Paul in 1962 and was a sales rep until he was transferred to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to become manager of the store there. He started working for S & H Green Stamp Co. as a sales rep in 1964 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and worked there until 1974. At that time they moved back to Minnesota and lived in Anoka, where he worked for Pager Co. in St. Paul. He took at job for the Anoka Hennepin School District until he retired in 1997. They moved to Benson, where they presently live. Bill was a member of AA for 35 years, Bible Study Club and he delivered Meals on Wheels. Among the things he enjoyed were reading, gardening and especially growing flowers. Bill was called from this life on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Minneapolis. He attained the age of 74 years, 7 months and 6 days. Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon of Benson; three children: Chris (Mary) Mitteness of Andover, Greg Mitteness of Blaine, and Scott (Sandy) Mitteness of Ramsey; four grandchildren: Ashley Mitteness, Britany Mitteness, Alec Mitteness, and Thomas Mitteness; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Shirley Mitteness of Benson, Mona (Neil) Welker of Willmar, Donna (Bob) Carlson of Brooklyn Center, Mildred Christopherson of Alexandria, Margaret Cota of St. Cloud, Charles Hendrickson of Benson, and Sandra Mitteness of Clara City; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his daughter Julie Ann Mitteness; his parents, Severt and Clarissa; a sister, Patricia Abraham; a brother-in-law LeRoy Abraham; brothers: Severt Jr. and Francis Mitteness; and a nephew, Daron Mitteness.
